Celebration Sunday, June 2010

Every June we honour those in our congregation who are marking significant passages: moving from one level of school to the next, graduating or retiring. This year each person received a small symbol to mark these transitions.

Cathy set the theme using colourful pipe cleaners to fashion a butterfly, the symbol of transformation that takes place as each of us encounter the holy in nature and in each other.

School children, from pre-school to high school and university grads received symbols suited to each of their transitions.

We celebrated the year Rev. Brenda and Leenane have spent with us and they celebrated their growth during their encounters with the holy as they prayed, preached, led and loved our congregation.
Each fashioned a pipe cleaner symbol. Brenda's was two hearts intertwined, symbol of love that grows with each new relationship. Leenane's was a bicycle, symbol of learning to ride (lead, preach, love) without training wheels, her journey with us as part of her theological training.

Rev. Brenda and Leenane received symbols, too--Candle snuffers that tell of the light and spirit that is dispursed to stay with us even when the flame is extinguished.

Following worship, we gathered in the gym for a celebratory lunch, continuing conversation and more sharing of stories.
