Dunbar's fund-raising events bring us together in committees and work parties when we laugh together and share time and talents. they are also a chance to serve our local community.

DHUC THRIFT SALE

Dunbar organizes a Thrift Sales each spring. The 2009 sale was one of the most successful in recent years. It's an opportunity for us to clean out our closets and storage spaces; to contribute to the financial resources of the church and spend a few hours working together and meeting folks from the community! Thanks to all who helped out.

Much of the preparation takes place in the week before the sale. Organized by Jill and Penny, volunteers work hard setting up tables, making signs and putting bags in the right place.

All day Friday, clothing and fabrics, toys and household items, electronics, jewelery and books are sorted, set out and priced in preparation for Saturday morning.

Order comes out of chaos.

The range of items is amazing; beautifully made and dressed dolls; electronics in working order; furniture, and, of course, a full range of clothing and household linens and utensils.

This year there was a special section in honour of Lois Blais who died leaving many of her worldly possessions to be sold by a dedicated group of friends.

The doors open at 9:30 and the shoppers rush to their favourite sales.
Dunbar volunteers are friendly and welcoming; selling is brisk.

The last shoppers leave and volunteers begin packing and boxing up. We have lists — both mental and written — of which agencies need what goods. Boxes are packed up and labelled. Recyclables and garbage are sorted and collected.
