Back to Home

At Dunbar Heights, the various ministries that we initiate and into which we put our prayer, time and energies are guided by our Vision.
Here is that Vision Statement:

We are an involved and connected community...

Seekers, questioners and believers at various stages on the journey.

We are nurtured and challenged by the presence of the Spirit to find depth and meaning for our lives and to engage our neighbourhood near and far in living lives of justice.

Seeking to follow the way of Jesus, we dare to live God's hope in our time and context.

Our greatest gift is our multi-age community in which we treasure our roots and heritage and embrace the wisdom of the new.

All are welcome and each one enriches our whole to continue God's unfolding story in our midst.

Spiritual Growth

Attention to the spiritual life of our members is a priority at DHUC because it is the foundation of all our activities. Spiritual growth is the focus of:

Outreach

Our Outreach program engages all members of our congregation and enormous energy and year-round involvement. Activities include
  • caring for our DHUC members through monthly Soup Sunday lunches
  • support of community agencies like First United Church on the downtown eastside, St. Elizabeth House, and deliveries of food and clothing
  • support of international development through refugee and fair trade organizations

Family and Community Events

  • Our spring Thrift Sale and Fall Fair are events that engage members and provide excellent shopping and gathering opportunities for folks in the community
  • Welcome Sunday and Holy Halloween are events hosted for the Dunbar community
  • Other events, First Night at the beginning of Advent, Shrove Tuesday and summer picnics are especially focused on gatherings for members of all ages.
  • Youth activities: our older youth are involved in city-wide and provincial events with youth from other churches. These times allow members to invite friends.
