God's Spirit works in wonderful and mysterious ways. That is the belief of members of Dunbar who practice Healing Touch and who explore the power of prayer.
Healing Touch Healing Touch is one form of the ancient art of "Hands-on Healing" that is portrayed in both the Hebrew Scriptures and the Christian New Testament. It is an energy-based approach to healing, working with the energy fields that surround each person. Healing Touch can effect changes in the energy balance. These changes can be experienced on a physical, mental, emotional and/or spiritual level.
The goal of Healing Touch is to restore harmony and balance to the body, mind and spirit and to allow the person to move towards further healing by awakening the body's own healing powers.
At Dunbar, volunteer practitioners meet regularly for practice every second Monday of the month. They offer Healing Touch to members of the Congregation and wider community on the fourth Monday of every month at Dunbar Height United Church, in the Sanctuary from 7:30-9:00pm. There is no charge. Should you wish to make a donation to this ministry, please contact the Church office at 604-731-6420.
All healing sessions are conducted with respect for each individual — physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. All aspects of each session are held in strict confidence.
A certified Healing Touch practitioner acts as a mentor for volunteer practitioners, all of whom have completed one or more courses in Healing Touch from a qualified instructor.
Dunbar Heights United Church is a member of the Naramata Centre Healing Pathways Program founded in 1993. You can view the Naramata Program for additional information.
Centering Prayer
Christian monastics and mystics through the ages described and practiced a contemplative relationship with God that takes place in a silence deeper than words. Today, Centering Prayer offers a method of prayer that opens us to the gift of contemplation. It does not take the place of other prayer and devotions. Rather it may deepen the experience of other forms of worship by offering a way of quieting our faculties and preparing us to be more receptive to God's presence.
Visit Contemplative Outreach of Greater Vancouver. COGV is a Chapter of Contemplative Outreach International which provides resources to support the practice of Centering Prayer to a network of individuals and small faith communities throughout the world.
This Chapter currently serves about a dozen Centering Prayer groups in the Greater Vancouver area of British Columbia, including two on the “Sunshine Coast” of B.C. For those seeking a deeper intimacy with God through the contemplative dimension of the Gospel, we bring the resources of the worldwide organization to groups and individuals who practice Centering Prayer locally. An important aspect of our service is to provide workshops and retreats featuring Centering Prayer and related topics by commissioned presenters.
