...when you are new and arrive on a Sunday morning

You will be welcomed at the entrance doors by one of a team of Greeters/Ushers. A greeter wearing a name tag will give you a worship bulletin.
As you enter the sanctuary (the main worship area)you may sit anywhere you like. Some long-time members like to sit in the same place every week but if you have chosen their place, they will sit close by.
You are invited to chat with anyone, but your privacy will be respected if you wish to remain anonymous.

If you come with children, you might want to sit close to the front on the right side where there are small tables and chairs, a carpet and big cushions for families to be comfortable.

Who we are

Dunbar Heights is a member church of the United Church of Canada. That means we welcome people of all ages, ethnic and cultural backgrounds and lifestyle choices. It means we regard the Bible seriously, but do not interpret it literally; we follow Jesus whose life leads us to strong social justice ministry.

What to expect in our Sunday worship

  • You are welcome to come dressed comfortably in jeans and runners or more formal attire. Come as you like; our worship is welcoming and joyful.
  • Service begins at 10:00 am in the sanctuary.
  • Children remain with their parents until theme time (called Exploring the Word), then go to classes with creative, dedicated teachers trained in the story-telling style of Godly Play.
  • Sermons and Scripture follow the Revised Common Lectionary followed by many mainline Christian churches. At time a different theme may be chosen by the preacher.
  • We use two sources of music published by the United Church of Canada, a hymnary called Voices United and a songbook called More Voices. Singing is accomapnied by piano or organ and led by the adult choir.
  • A printed bulletin guides worshippers through the service.
  • All Ages services are scheduled throughout the year. The Sacrament of Holy Communion is practiced monthly and all are welcome to participate. This invitation is not to the table of Dunbar Heights United Church nor to the table of the United Church of Canada. It is Christ's table and all who seek to follow his example are welcome.
  • Baptism of infants and adults is offered as requested.
  • Sermons and Scripture follow the Revised Common Lectionary or themes decided by the minister.
  • People dress comfortably in jeans and runners or more formal attire. Come as you like; our worship is welcoming and joyful.
  • There is a comfortable space for children in the sanctuary where they listen in on worship and engage in worship-related art work.
  • All-Ages services occur several times a year. These services develop around a theme and are designed to engage members of the congregation from the youngest children to long-time members.

"All are welcome and each one enriches our whole
to continue God's unfolding story in our midst."
