Lenten Worship
We welcome you to join us for Lenten worship every Sunday at 10am. Spiritual Practices Following Shrove Tuesday pancakes and
mask-making, we moved to the sanctuary for a quieter service of spiritual practices as we transition to the season
of Lent. The children help to gather the "Hallelujahs", to put them away until Easter Sunday
morning. Among stations around the
sanctuary there were opportunities for confession that dissolved before your eyes, a water blessing, images to
share God's tears, candles to light in prayer, places to make Lenten promises, to receive ashes and to be
creative.

| First Sunday of Lent
On the first Sunday of Lent we hang our Lenten banner which reveals new images each week
throughout the season. Music was provided by the choir, and by members M.E. and Gwen on piano, guitar and
vocals.
The message of Jesus' temptation was enacted by our ministry team of Rev. Brenda Fawkes
and Leenane Shiels. After 40 days without food, the Devil offers food and drink, coffee, an apple, Coke and the
temptation to turn stone to bread. "One does not live by bread alone." "If you worship me, all this could
be yours." It is written, "Worship the Lord your God, and serve only Him." And between each temptation, Cathy
reflects modern confession, written on paper that dissolves as our sins are forgiven.
Jesus replied to the Devil, "Do not put the Lord your God to the test." And the
Devil departed from him until an opportune time. |
We have a comfortable space for children and their
parents during worship. Here they are part of worship until the special time for Exploring the Word, then they go
to Godly Play classes with well-trained teachers. |
Purple the colour of
Lent is the colour of royalty and of penitence, a reminder of Christ's sovereignty and our reflection on the
final days of his life. For a more complete look at the worship life at Dunbar, go to these pages: Children in worship, All Ages services. Worship at Dunbar
Heights is inspirational and challenging preaching, spirited singing, a welcome and stories for the youngest
children, and questions for inquiring youth, all in a traditional sanctuary. You are welcome to come dressed
comfortably in jeans and runners or more formal attire. Come as you like; our worship is welcoming and joyful.
Service begins at 10:00 am in the sanctuary. Children remain with their parents until theme time, then go to
classes with creative, dedicated teachers trained in the story-telling style of Godly Play. Sermons and Scripture
follow the Revised Common Lectionary or themes chosen by the minister; the Sacrament of Holy Communion is
practiced monthly; All Ages services are scheduled throughout the year; Baptism of infants and adults is offered
as requested.
