At Dunbar Heights our ministry team of Rev. Brenda Fawkes and Leenane Shiels have prepared a special series of services on the theme of Night Vision. Here's part of what Rev. Brenda wrote in our December newsletter.

"Throughout Advent and Christmas we are given, to use the words of poet Jan Richardson, night vision. We are given, through angels and shepherds and prophets, a way to find our path through any darkness we know until we reach the dawn."

NIGHT VISION: "The Light shines in the darkness and the darkness did not overcome it"

November 29th ADVENT ONE: Vision In The Dark: Sunday of Hope
Scripture Texts: Isaiah 11:1-10; Luke 1:26-38

December 6th ADVENT TWO: Vessels To Hold The Light: Sunday of Peace
Scripture Texts: Malachi 3:1-4; Luke 3:1-6
Marking the Anniversary and Remembering of the Montreal Massacre

December 13th ADVENT THREE: Companions In The Dark: Sunday of Joy

The special event this Sunday was the commissioning of the Lay Pastoral Visiting team who recently completed their training. Each received a certificate plus a Companion Shawl cut from the same fabric as the Starry Blanket shared by the children.

December 15th BLUE CHRISTMAS 7:00pm, When Christmas Is Tough, a service of reflection and healing held for those grieving loss — loss of a loved one, loss of employment and security; loss of confidence and respect.

December 20th ADVENT FOUR: Birthing: Sunday of Love
This Sunday the All Ages Pageant delivered the message of the good news of Jesus birth.
The players lit the advent wreath as the ancient story was told. Our Children's Choir
debuted to sing their part in the pageant, costumed for their other roles.

Our pageant was narrated by two angels, one of them Gabriel. We are blessed each year in this Advent season by watching our youngest tell the story of the birth of Jesus.

December 24th CHRISTMAS EVE
4:00pm Christmas Story for the very young
7:00pm Christmas Pageant
11:00pm Candlelight Communion Service

Blue is the liturgical colour for the season of Advent. It is the colour of the night sky just before dawn, and reminds us to be ready for Jesus, our light in the world. These four weeks are a time of anticipation and preparation, a time of waiting for the birth of Jesus.
