December 24th CHRISTMAS EVE
4:00pm The Journey to Bethlehem for the very young
7:00pm Family Worship
11:00pm Candlelight, Carols and Communion

At Dunbar Heights our worship planning team developed a theme for the four Sundays of Advent. We explored Strange Places... ...those of Barrenness; ...of Protest; ...of Crisis; ...and of a Stable. Click each to read Rev. Michelle's sermon for the first weeks one to three.

Our gifted decorator added to the beauty of our sanctuary week by week.

Each Sunday of Advent had a focus that enhanced the worship theme.
Advent One worship conitined in the gym and sanctuary as we prepared our homes and church with the symbols of the season: wreaths, decorations
and the sanctuary tree.
Advent Two, we celebrated Communion; Advent Three, a Baptism.
Advent Four was Pageant Sunday when both choirs presented Strange Places, a Christmas pageant written by Eleanor Daley.

Each week with the children, Anne shared more of the Journey to Bethlehem: first the ancient prophets pointed the way, then the family showed the way, the shepherds led the way, the wise men travelled to lead the way. All were there and we were ready for the birth of the Christ Child.

Families lit the candles of our Advent wreath, adding a new candle each Sunday: Advent One-Hope; Advent Two-Peace; Advent Three-Joy; Advent Four-Love.

Members of our choir provided special music throughout Advent.

Blue is the liturgical colour for the season of Advent. It is the colour of the night sky just before dawn, and reminds us to be ready for Jesus, our light in the world. These four weeks are a time of anticipation and preparation, a time of waiting for the birth of Jesus.
